What The Coronavirus Pandemic Looks Like From Space

Satellite images show what Earth looks like with nearly one-third of the human race on lockdown.

Cities, beaches and crowded freeways are now deserted due to the coronavirus pandemic. California-based Planet Labs and Colorado-based Maxar Technologies have provided some striking images of some of the most populated locations on Earth now suddenly vacant, per Forbes.

“Cars in rental car lots have skyrocketed,” said Maxar. “At some airports, rental cars are overflowing into newly creating parking areas.”

Major tourist spots, such as the Santa Monica Pier, are now eerily quiet.

“Many tourist attractions recently closed as social distancing became widely embraced as a strategy for fighting the coronavirus,” said Maxar, noting their imagery “demonstrates the significant decrease in visitors at these sites.”
