Trump Adds U.K. and Ireland to Travel Ban

The Trump administration on Sunday extended its travel ban to the United Kingdom and Ireland, effective Monday at midnight

The new restrictions are part of a ban on travel from greater continental Europe to the U.S. for a period of 30 days to prevent the further transmission of coronavirus. American citizens, legal permanent residents, their immediate families, and certain others are exempt from the ban, but will be funneled through one of 13 airports equipped for special screenings, according to NPR

President Trump also noted on Sunday that domestic travel may be limited in the near future.

“If you don’t have to travel, I wouldn’t do it,” Trump said. “We want this thing to end. We don’t want a lot of people getting infected.”

The State Department has already announced a strong advisory to Americans asking them “reconsider travel” to all countries, which is the second strongest advisory outside of “do not travel.”
