Crowd Cow, a startup providing door-to-door delivery of small-batch craft meats, raised $8 million in a Series A financing round led by Madrona Venture Group, with new participation from Ashton Kutcher & Guy Oseary’s Sound Ventures. Existing investor Joe Montana of Liquid 2 Ventures also participated in the round.

Created in 2015, Crowd Cow’s curated ranch-to-table service is designed to give consumers access to meat not available in stores, along with “a transparency you don’t see anywhere else in the meat industry.” By connecting consumers and ranchers, Crowd Cow also provides a customer base for small family ranchers whose previous options were commodity cattle auctions or farmers’ markets.

The company plans to use the financing to add more ranches and farms to its online platform, further improve its supply chain, and search for new flavors in categories like craft beef, pastured chicken, and heritage pork.
