Semiconductors startup Wiliot announced it has raised $14 million in Series A financing. Qualcomm Ventures, M Capital, Grove Ventures, Norwest Venture Partners, and 83North participated in the funding.

Wiliot aims to accelerate the Internet of Things by eliminating reliance on batteries and wired power. The technology powers itself by harvesting energy from radio waves, enabling a sensor as small as a fingernail, as thin as a sheet of paper, and an order of magnitude lower in cost. With proof of concepts scheduled to start in 2018 and a delivery-to-market date in 2019, Wiliot hopes to have a significant impact on the current Bluetooth beacon marketplace.
