WeWork Acquires Flatiron School for Undisclosed Sum

Coworking space provider WeWork announced yesterday that it has acquired edtech startup Flatiron School. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Flatiron is an accelerated programming school whose mission is to enable a better life through education. Founded in 2012 by Adam Enbar and Avi Flombaum, Flatiron School strives to create” a new educational model that is accessible, transformative, and delivers fulfilling careers in today’s tech-oriented world.” Subjects consist of best practices in Ruby, Rails, JavaScript, Object-Oriented Design, Git, SQL, and Test-Driven Development, and the learning environment includes pair programming, project based discovery, and a relentless focus on teamwork. At the completion of the 12-week program, students will have spent at least 500 hours in a hands-on, intensive learning environment, coding solutions to real problems and working on real projects.

WeWork CEO and founder Adam Neumann announced that their company employees and members will now have access to Flatiron School courses both in-person and online. As the partnership moves forward, WeWork plans to offer new Flatiron in-person courses in new locations and online through new models and new channels.
