Communications Startup NearGroup Closes $1.6 Million

NearGroup closed $1.6 million in seed financing led by Open Ocean Capital, with participation from NeoTribe Ventures and Boost VC.

NearGroup is a chatbot that allows people to connect with like-minded people based on proximity, personality, and creative content. According to the company, NearGroup boasts 2.2 million users from 32 countries and says that 2.4 billion messages have been exchanged on its platform.

The company revealed that NearGroup will use the funding to expand in Asia Pacific, the U.S. and Europe.
