Real Estate startup RealtyShares closed $28 million in Series C financing. Seven investors participated in the round, including Cross Creek Capital, Danhua Capital, Bow Capital, Union Square Ventures, General Catalyst Partners and Menlo Ventures.

RealtyShares is a real estate crowdfunding platform where individual and institutional investors can purchase shares in vetted residential and commercial real estate properties for as little as $5,000. The investments are offered by real estate borrowers and sponsors looking for access to more efficient capital than that provided by banks and other private capital sources.

The company said that its new VC partners bring significant experience transforming old industries and will help RealtyShares deepen its focus on the underserved commercial financing market.
