Consumer Safety Startup Sp0n Brings In $12 Million

Sp0n closed $12 million in Series A financing led by Sequoia Capital.
Sp0n is an early-stage tech startup, based in Manhattan, that is on a mission to keep people safe and informed. The company has developed Citizen, a mobile app that provides instant notifications and live broadcasts of crimes and incidents reported to 911. Citizen currently covers New York City and it is beta testing in San Francisco. The company has also created Vigilante, an app that offers a map of all recently reported crimes and gives users the ability to film and upload video of those incidents for other users to watch. Location-based push notifications are delivered when a report is called in nearby.
