Satellite technology startup Analytical Space announced it has secured $3.5 million in seed financing, led by The Engine and Space Angels Network. NXT Ventures, Flybridge Capital Partners, Shasta Ventures, Yard Ventures, Dream Incubator, and Dorm Room Fund also participated.

Every few hours, one Library of Congress’ worth of data is created by satellites in orbit. Getting this data from satellites to the ground for use is a costly and complex process. Analytical Space is creating a network of in-orbit relays that uses laser communication to solve this problem, allowing operators to offload more data at costs comparable to cellular data plans, all while using existing hardware. The company is also working on IoT device connectivity that would allow users instantly to collect and deliver data from assets deployed around the planet.
