Health Tech Startup Raises $8M Series B, Adds Adventist Health as Client

Virtual care provider bright.md raises $8 million

Bright.md, which develops virtual healthcare technology, today announced it has closed an $8 million Series B funding round, led by B Capital Group, a global venture capital firm focused on healthcare and enterprise technology innovations. Existing investor Seven Peaks Ventures also participated in the round.

The company’s virtual care solution, SmartExam, aims to automate care and communication between physician and patient for faster, better diagnosis and treatment. Using SmartExam, patients can connect to their own primary care providers (PCPs) using a mobile, tablet, or desktop device. The software dynamically interviews patients, using answers to solicit more information and support providers in the care delivery process. Built with intelligent learning algorithms, SmartExam gets smarter over time, as it learns more about a specific patient’s health needs and conditions and gains insights to improve the process with every patient and provider interaction.

“The Bright.md team has built a unique asset for clinical decision support,” said Gavin Teo, partner at B Capital Group, in an official announcement. “Their software intelligently combines patient intake data, electronic health records history, and provider workflow to enable physicians to practice at the top of their license.”

Since Bright.md’s start in 2014, the SmartExam virtual care system has been used by major health care delivery systems, including Greenville Health System and Rush University Medical System. It is also the preferred choice of AVIA’s Virtual Access cohort, which includes eight major health delivery systems nationwide. Along with today’s funding news, Bright.md also announced that it has added Adventist Health to its growing roster of clients. Adventist Health is a faith-based nonprofit integrated health system that serves more than 75 communities in California, Hawaii, Oregon, and Washington.

According to Bright.md, the new  funding will support continued market and product development for SmartExam, including new implementations of healthcare delivery systems, increased sales and marketing efforts, expanded client engagements, and additional hiring.
