Artsy Raises $49.3 Million

Internet startup Artsy closed $49.3 million in financing from an undisclosed investor.

Artsy offers people a new way to discover art they love, featuring work from leading galleries, museums, and private collections around the world.

Powered by The Art Genome Project, an ongoing study of the characteristics that distinguish and connect works of art, Artsy evaluates artworks according to more than 1,000 characteristics, among them art history movements, subject matter, and formal qualities, to create a powerful search experience that takes into account the multifaceted aspects of works of art. Artsy’s growing collection comprises more than 350,000 artworks by more than 50 artists from leading art fairs, galleries, museums, and art institutions. The company partners with more than 3,000 galleries, as well as 400 institutional partners, including museums and foundations from around the globe.
