Paris startup Agricool announced it has raised $9.1 million in financing from four undisclosed investors.
The company has invented a new way of growing growing fruits and vegetables in recycled shipping containers, based on two years of research and development. With optimal lighting, temperature, irrigation and air quality, Agricool’s container farming is able to produce the same amount of food as traditional farmland.
Agricool’s produce is grown without pesticides or GMOs, while using 90 percent less water and nutrients and consuming only renewable energy. More importantly, the company reduces transportation costs and maintains the freshness of its produce by establishing container farms right in the middle of cities.
