Advanced materials startup SLIPS Technologies completed $8.6 million in financing. Three investors participated in the round, including Anzu Partners and BASF Venture Capital America.

Removing contaminants, residues, and biofilms from surfaces found in manufacturing equipment or maritime shipping vessels costs money and time across multiple industries. SLIPS’ cutting-edge coatings work by transforming surfaces into slippery, self-healing liquid layers, which allow sticky materials to slide easily off. The company creates highly-repellent slippery surfaces for customers in all industries, including energy, packaging, consumer, automotive and environmental.

In its announcement, the company said the new funds will be used for product development and testing, commercialization, and expansion of core technologies.
