Communications startup Discord completed $50 million in financing. Four investors contributed to the round: Index Ventures, Spark Capital, Greylock Partners, and Benchmark Capital.
The company created Discord, an all-in-one voice and text chat for gamers that’s free, secure, and works on both desktop and phone. Discord’s goal is to replace traditional communications tools like Skype and Teamspeak, which haven’t been updated in years and, according to the company, no longer meet gamers’ needs.
Discord plans to use the fresh capital to beef up its marketing, expand its audience, and “steal users from sluggish rivals.”
