Agtech Startup Bowery Farming Secures $20 Million
Bowery Farming announced it has raised $20 million in Series A financing. Three investors participated in the round: General Catalyst Partners, GGV Capital, and GV.
Bowery is a modern farming company that aims to grow the purest produce imaginable. By combining output from the best local farms with advances made possible by technology, the company’s indoor farms create ideal conditions to grow post-organic produce. BoweryOS, its proprietary software system, uses vision systems, automation technology, and machine learning to monitor plants and the variables that drive their growth 24/7. Because it controls the entire process from seed to store, Bowery farms use no pesticides and 95 percent less water, and they are 100 times more productive on the same footprint of land than traditional agriculture. The company’s produce is currently available at select Whole Foods and Foragers stores in the Tristate area.
In its announcement, the company said Bowery will expand its workforce of twelve. According to co-founder and CEO Irving Fain, the latest funding round will support hires in sales, agricultural science, software development, and systems and mechanical engineering.
