Unity Technologies Raises $400 Million
Gaming company Unity Technologies completed $400 million in financing from Silver Lake. According to TechCrunch, this new round brings the company’s valuation to $2.6 billion.
Unity Technologies is the creator of a flexible, high-performance development platform used to create rich, interactive 2D, 3D, VR and AR experiences. Unity’s powerful graphics engine and full-featured editor allows developers to create games and apps and easily to bring them to multiple platforms, including mobile devices, home entertainment systems, personal computers, and embedded systems.
According to McKinsey, Unity controls more than 45 percent of the full-feature game engine market. In every major region in the world, an overwhelming majority of the top-grossing 3D mobile games created with third-party tools are made using Unity.
The company revealed that about half of the money will be used to allow employees and some early shareholders to cash out.
