Software Startup Cockroach Labs Has Raised $27 Million
Software startup Cockroach Labs announced it has secured $27 million in Series B financing. Five investors contributed to the round, including Redpoint Ventures, Benchmark Capital, and GV.
Cockroach Labs has created a distributed relational database that is scalable, survivable, and strongly consistent – hence the name. It combines the rich functionality of SQL with the horizontal scalability common to NoSQL offerings, and provides enterprise-grade disaster recovery.
In its announcement, the company said its funding is coinciding with the official launch of its version 1.0. product. According to company CEO Ben Kimball, eager customers, largely startups, had already been implementing the service during the beta period, before it had been deemed fully ready for deployment.
