Artificial Intelligence startup Vicarious announced it has raised $50 million in Series C financing. Two investors contributed to the round, among them Khosla Ventures.

Vicarious is an artificial intelligence company that uses computational principles to develop general intelligence for robots. The company’s first technology is a visual perception system that interprets the contents of photographs and videos in a manner similar to humans. Vicarious was founded in 2010 by Dr. Dileep George and D. Scott Phoenix. Dr. George was formerly chief technology officer at Numeta, which he co-founded with Jeff Hawkins and Donna Dubinsky, the founders of Palm and Hand, while completing his PhD at Stanford University. Mr. Phoenix was previously entrepreneur-in-residence at the Founders Fund and CEO of Frogmetrics, a touchscreen analytics company he co-founded through Y Combinator.
