Quintessent raised $40 million and began sampling its first product the same day. The Santa Barbara company’s comb laser generates eight precisely spaced wavelengths from a single laser source under one bias control, built on gallium arsenide quantum dot material integrated with silicon photonics. The company says it cuts the power spent moving data by up to 40 percent against alternative architectures.

Cycle Capital led the oversubscribed Series A. Goldman Sachs XIG-Industry Ventures, Hina Liberty Capital, Susquehanna International Group, InterVest, Safar Partners and Ciena are new investors. Foothill Ventures, M Ventures, Osage University Partners and Sierra Ventures returned.

“With today’s news, Quintessent is starting its transition from tech development to a product-focused company,” said co-founder and chief executive Alan Liu.

“AI continues to accelerate data center demand, placing significant pressure on power systems,” said Andrée-Lise Méthot, founder and managing partner of Cycle Capital. Evaluation kits are shipping now.
