Google introduced a coronavirus website over the weekend and improved search results for resources related to the pandemic.
The website, at google.com/covid19, allows users to find “state-based information, safety and prevention tips, search trends related to COVID-19, and further resources for individuals, educators and businesses.” The enhanced search results offer up similar bits of information.
The company is sourcing its data from “authoritative” organizations like the WHO and the CDC, per The Verge. The site is currently only available in English, but a Spanish version will be soon to follow.
Last Friday, President Trump claimed he had asked Google to create a website to help with testing for the virus. He noted that 1,700 engineers were working on the site and had “made tremendous progress.” That turned out to be a false statement, per The New York Times.
Google followed up the President’s statement by explaining that its parent company’s subsidiary, Verily, was working on a targeted website intended only for health care workers in two Bay Area counties. However, Google quickly put together the current site of searchable resources.
