MariaDB was created in 2009 by the individuals behind MySQL, an open source relational database, as a post-Sun Microsystems acquisition alternative to MySQL. According to the company, 12 million users in 45 countries trust their critical business data to MariaDB.

This investment allows the company to further accelerate growth, deliver new solutions for the cloud, and create automation through machine learning.
