Bolt Threads Raises $57 Million

According to a recent SEC filing, advanced materials startup Bolt Threads acquired $56.9 million in financing from an undisclosed investor.

Bolt Threads aims to harness proteins found in nature to create fibers and fabrics that provide more lightweight comfort and breathability – and be more sustainable – than cotton, wool, or traditional silk. The fibers are made of sugar, water, salts and yeast. Yeast produces silk protein in a liquid form during fermentation, similar to the beer-making process.
