AR Company Lightform Raises $5 Million

Lightform Inc., an augmented reality hardware company, obtained a $5 million round of funding led by Lux Capital. Other participants in the round included Dolby Family Ventures, CrunchFund, Comet Labs, Presence Capital, and Anorak Ventures.

According to the company, its small, Wi-Fi-enabled computer mounts on any video projector, allowing artists and designers to map digital video content onto 3D objects and retail, restaurants, offices, and event spaces. After its built-in camera scans the environment, designers can use the accompanying desktop software, Lightform Creator, to create and display AR effects to inform, advertise, or entertain customers.

“Lux is excited to support Lightform in its mission to democratize access to this technology with a hardware/software solution that makes projected augmented reality affordable, accessible, and really easy to use,” says Bilal Zuberi, partner at Lux Capital.

Lightform is using the capital to fund the manufacturing of their projected AR device.
