Video sharing website Vimeo announced it has agreed to acquire Livestream, a live video-streaming platform which allows users to watch, like, and share live events via a suite of hardware and software tools. According to Vimeo’s corporate blog, the acquisition is aimed at deepening the company’s commitment to event creators.
Livestream, founded in 2007, has enabled nearly 50 million viewers to watch hundreds of thousands of live events on its platform each month from companies including Spotify, HubSpot, the Philadelphia Eagles, Dow Jones, Tough Mudder, Carolina Herrera, and Quartz. The New York-headquartered startup has previously raised $14.7 million from Gannett Co.
