Network software company Viptela announced it has been acquired by Cisco for $610 million in cash and assumed equity awards.
Viptela provides technology for virtualization of Wide Area Networks (WANs). It allows global companies to build carrier agnostic, policy-controlled and cost-effective WANs. Its technology has been deployed by scores of Fortune-500 enterprises, and major carriers like Singtel offer global Hybrid WAN services based on Viptela technology.
According to the company, Viptela will help Cisco expand its SD-WAN portfolio with increased functionality and simplicity delivered through the cloud.
