DevMynd, a Chicago-based digital strategy consulting firm, announced this week that it has received Series A funding from Motorola Solutions Venture Capital. The startup did not disclose the investment amount in its official announcement, but sources told The Chicago Tribune that it was $4 million.

Motorola Solutions is the successor to Motorola, Inc., in the wake of the telecommunications giant’s spinoff of its mobile phone division, first to Motorola Mobility and ultimately to Lenovo. Its current core business is providing products and services for the telecom and data communications industry. The group’s venture capital arm was started in 1999 to invest in applications and technologies dedicated to improving public safety.

DevMynd, which was founded by JC Grubbs in 2011, provides digital strategy, mobile app development and software engineering services to clients with a focus on using technology to solve meaningful social and business problems. The new funding will allow Motorola Solutions and its customers to access DevMynd’s strategy, design and engineering capabilities while helping the startup expand its team and attract new business.

“We’re pursuing technological advances such as interoperable mobile applications for mission-critical communications and collaboration, enhanced situational awareness, real-time rich messaging, data analytics and artificial intelligence,” commented Paul Steinberg, chief technology officer of Motorola Solutions. “All of these are on the immediate horizon and we are looking for DevMynd to help us get these capabilities to our customers.”
